We all know that small group work is important in other subjects, but it's also important in band for a lot of the same reasons. 1. Small group work allows concepts to be worked on by individuals in a smaller setting. This allows for stronger mastery of these concepts since the individual performance in a small group is emphasized. 2. Small group work also allows for easier and more accurate individual assessment for both the performer and instructor. This individual and specific feedback with help your performer grow! 3. Sometimes, individuals can get lost in a large group setting as well as rely on other colleagues to a fault. In small group performances, the individual role is greater which can create stronger players in the rehearsal process. 4. Small group work fosters team building skills. Whether this comes in the form of simply performing music together, arranging rehearsals, or just helping a student become more socially active. Get your students working in small group settings by using the fun free duets available on the free music portion of this website which includes backing tracks.
